How to add a Wifx L1 LoRaWAN Gateway to TTN/TTI, The Things Network v3 Stack

When fully functioning and connected to the internet, the Lorix One status lights will blink like in this video.

1. Make sure the Wifx L1 gateway is plugged in and functioning with all the lights blinking like the accompanying video and installation guide:

Access the gateway configuration panel UI:

2. With your computer connected to the same WAN (Wifi or Ethernet) network as the Wifx gateway, go to the following web address/URL, which is formed by appending the gateway serial number without the dashes to the letters “gw”:

  • Example Wifx L1 manager login web address: https://gw150uxyz.local

  • Note: The URL is formed by the letters “gw” and the gateway serial number (ex: 150-ux-yz) without the dashes: https://gw150uxyz.local

  • In the above Web address, replace the 150-ux-yz with your Wifx-L1 gateway’s serial number.

3. Your browser may warn you or try to stop you from accessing the above Web address, so just click through the warnings to access the Wifx L1 user interface.

You can log in with the following credentials (unless you already changed them):

  • Username: admin Password: lorix4u
Note: Change the password and user name to secure your gateway. If you should lose your password, a hard reset of the gateway will return it to default settings and you will have to complete the following setup all over again.

  • Resetting the device per instructions in the manufacturer’s user guide will restore the above username and password.

4. Once inside the Wifx L2 user interface, please perform a firmware update if the system is showing that one is available. (Upper right corner block or in the left-hand menu in the System/Update section)

5. In the left-hand menu, under “LoRa” Click on “Forwarder” and once the screen changes click on the pencil icon in the upper right side of the screen to bring up the Change Forwarder window as shown in the screenshot. Select the settings as described below:

Change Forwarder:

  • Lora Basic Station

6. In the Control section of the screen, make sure the auto-restart LoRaWAN forwarder is turned on.

  • Make sure that Auto-Restart is Turned-ON

7. Scroll further down into the Configuration section and enter the following SSL and security credentials obtained from TTN/TTI v3 which will enable the Wifx L1 to create a secure encrypted connection with The Things Network (TTN) or the industrial-grade The Things Industries (TTI) LoRaWAN application servers.

  • A screenshot of all 16 places where you need to enter information or make changes follows:

Configuration:

Configuration and Update Server (CUPS)
The current CUPS server configuration may differ from the original configuration.

See this content in the original post
  • Secured TLN connection = ON

  • Client authentification = ON

  • Use Token = Bearer <API key from TTI>
Note: Token is supplied by BARANI and is the API key generated for each Gateway in the TTN/TTI Console. When entering it into the Token field, make use that the word "Bearer" precedes like in the following example:
    Bearer NNSXS.7ZDZC7JI7SNNBAOIPZ5S4URMHSRBF7YOOBUWKDQ.XMZ4VKFZKOMCJKO6TM3B7TKKG1JMH3A

  • Check if there are white spaces before or after the word "Bearer" and API key (token code) and that there is only one white space between the word "Bearer" and the API key. Click on the eyeball to see what is entered in the text field. When pasting the API key, click in the text field and perform a select-all using Ctrl+A before pasting in the code. This will clear the field when pasting so that the code is not entered twice in the field.

LoRaWAN Network Server (LNS)
The current LNS server configuration may differ from the original configuration.

Note: A separate API key may or should be generated for the CUPS server and the LNS server sections.

8. Make sure to click SAVE after modifying each section.

9. choose the correct Frequency region
10. The large antenna shipped with Wifx L1 is a high gain +5dBi antenna

Antenna and frequency region selection:

9. In the left-hand menu, in the Settings section under LoRa menu item, choose the correct Frequency region, since each part of the world is allowed to operate LoRaWAN in a different radio frequency spectrum. Depending on the firmware version, you will have different options to choose from. Choose the region where you plan on installing the gateway.

10. The large antenna shipped with Wifx L1 is a high gain +5dBi antenna. Make sure you choose this correctly since it will affect the wireless transmission range between your sensors and this gateway.

Final Check:

9. Make sure that Auto-Restart is Turned-ON before you leave the Lorix One user interface console.

10. Open the Logs panel to check if any errors are shown:
