QUESTION:

  1. How do I change the rain gauge resolution?

  2. Why is the rain display continuously showing rain until the end of day?

ANSWER:

  1. Rain gauge resolution is set in the allMeteo® weather map and portal as in the accompanying screenshot in the settings tab of each weather station. Since the rain gauge resolution is dictated by the rain gauge...usually written on the bottom, the user has the option to use any rain gauge (also known as pluviometer) they like with the MeteoHelix® weather stations.

The MeteoHelix® collects and counts the clicks from the rain gauge output and accumulates them in its memory in a revolving buffer. Each rain event increases the number in the revolving buffer so that no rain is lost if the wireless reception halters. It will always send the correct accumulated rain amount.

  2. To change the allMeteo® portal rain plot display from Cumulative to Event based display so that you can see individual rain storm amounts, go to the Graph Preferences section by clicking on the Preferences in the left menu as shown in the accompanying screenshot.

The difference between Cumulative and Event based display

Please see the following FAQ article on the difference between Cumulative and Event rain display:

Event rain display

Event rain setting shows the accumulated rain amount during each rain event. A rain event is defined as continuously increasing rain amount. if no additional rain is accumulated during any one 10 minute interval, the plot resets. This plot is useful in detecting down-bursts and short term rain events.

Cumulative rain display

Cumulative rain display setting is used to display accumulated rain amounts over a set period of time. screenshot shows 24hr (1 day) accumulated rain amounts of extreme torrential rains in the tropics. this plot setting is useful for agriculture where accumulated rain amounts are very important.
