Anemometer and Wind Sensor Manufacturer Directory

This page is a practical manufacturer directory for companies and brands that publish named anemometer, wind-vane, wind-sensor, wind-LIDAR, marine wind, aviation wind, hazardous-area wind, or HVAC airflow products. The tables list manufacturers, countries, representative wind-measurement products, conservative sensor types, and standards/reporting notes; they do not rank products or verify procurement availability.

Tables are grouped by application area and alphabetized within each table. This manufacturer-only audit removed system integrators, data/software providers, calibration laboratories, component-only suppliers, research/reference organizations, and reseller/rebrand rows unless the company also publishes a named wind-measurement instrument under its own brand. Some companies appear in more than one table because the same wind sensor, wind LIDAR, or all-in-one wind-measurement product may serve several markets. Confirm current model-level certificates and approvals before procurement. Wind-sensor type definitions used in the tables

The type column separates the physical sensing principle from the application. It is intentionally conservative and now avoids supplier-dependent integrator rows in the main directory.

Type termDefinition
Cup 1DA speed-only cup anemometer. Direction is measured by a separate wind vane, or not measured at all.
Cup 2DA combined wind-speed and wind-direction package built around a cup rotor and a wind vane. The rotor and vane may share one housing, masthead, product kit, or station package.
High-performance cup 1D / 2DA cup instrument intended for meteorology or wind-energy work, usually with low starting threshold, low distance constant, calibration data, and better off-axis behavior. “1D” still means speed-only; “2D” means combined speed and direction.
Mid-grade / prosumer cup 2DA weather-station or project-monitoring cup-and-vane sensor suitable for alarms, education, research, small PV, agriculture, or marine use, but not assumed to be regulatory- or wind-energy-reference grade without calibration and validation.
Low-end / consumerA hobby, yacht, or budget package useful for local awareness and alarms. It should not be treated as a compliance instrument unless the selected model, installation, calibration, and data processing are validated for that requirement.
Propeller 1D / 2DA propeller or aerovane sensor. “1D” is speed-only; “2D” is a propeller-plus-vane or aerovane assembly reporting horizontal speed and direction.
Ultrasonic 1D / 2D / 3DA sonic sensor using acoustic transit time. 1D measures one airflow axis, 2D reports horizontal wind speed and direction, and 3D reports u/v/w wind components for turbulence, flux, or research use.
Low-power ultrasonic 2DA 2D sonic wind sensor optimized for battery, solar, IoT, marine, or all-in-one weather-station deployments. It may trade heating power, output rate, or extreme-weather margin for low energy use.
Thermal / hot-wire / vane HVACPortable, duct, laboratory, or process airflow instruments. These are usually for indoor air velocity, balancing, cleanrooms, or industrial airflow rather than WMO surface wind.
LIDAR / remote-sensing wind profilerA Doppler or direct-detection remote sensor used for wind profiles, nacelle measurements, airport wind shear, offshore campaigns, or scanning applications.
Spinner / nacelle inflow sensorA turbine-mounted system estimating inflow or yaw error from spinner, nacelle, or rotor-mounted measurements.
Standards and gust-note convention: MEASNET / IEC 61400-12-1 usually refers to wind-energy calibration or classification, not a blanket approval for every installation. WMO, ICAO, FAA / NWS, and EPA requirements are often system-level requirements involving siting, exposure, data logging, calibration, averaging, and reporting. A 1 s, 3 s, or 5 s gust is normally a firmware or logger data-reduction product calculated from sensor samples; the table lists sample / gust capability only when it is commonly published or specifically relevant.
